Its confirmed! We are doing TWO screenings!

Tuesday, April 2nd. Screening of I am Evidence
I Am Evidence is a critically acclaimed investigative documentary uncovering the backlog of untested Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Kits (“rape kits”) across the country. The film was produced by Law and Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay and has won numerous awards including the 2019 Emmy for Best Documentary. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Kelly Gorham (Detective, Portland Police Department), Shaun Johnson (SAFE Nurse, Mercy Hospital), Jonathan Sahrbeck (District Attorney, Cumberland County),  Alison Gringas (Forensic Chemist, Maine Crime Lab), and Eliza Burwell (SART Advocate, SARSSM).

Sexual Assault Response Service of Southern Maine will be holding a Sexual Assault Awareness Month Survivor Art Exhibit and Reception during the month of April at USM. SARSSM is calling all survivors who would like to show case their art in the exhibit. The submissions can range from a variety of topics of your choosing! Some examples might be the #MeToo Movement, survivor empowerment, and social justice issues. We are prompting folks to take a creative liberty in regards to the art piece they choose to make/show. All artists can wish to remain confidential, however, anonymity will not be an option, as the folks organizing this event will need to have contact information for the artist.​

EMPOWERMENT SELF DEFENSE
EMPOWERMENT SELF DEFENSE INTENSIVE Level 1 Saturday April 19th, 2020 Noon to 4pm, Portland, ME

Come together for a great afternoon of learning, sharing, and exploration of the ways we can all take up more space in the world by expressing what we want, need, and feel and intervening early to prevent and respond to harassment, abuse and assault. Gain awareness, verbal and physical response skills, and tools for adrenalin management and healing. This training is highly accessible and adaptable to all. Open to women, trans and nob binary people ages 16 and older.


Cost: $40 to $60/person (more if you can, less if you can’t).
