About the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center

The Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center (CCCAC) is owned and operated by Spurwink Services and housed at their Spurwink Center for Safe and Healthy Families. The CCCAC works with children and families referred to them by law enforcement, district attorneys, and child protective services.
Coordinated response:
CCCAC staff are responsible for making the initial referral for sexual assault support services  to Sexual Assault Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM) . Referrals are made with the parent/guardian's written consent via a signed release of information.  SARSSM SART Advocates that provide services to CCCAC clients have specialized training which includes:
  • Dynamics of child abuse
  • Trauma-informed services
  • Crisis assessment and intervention
  • Risk assessment and safety planning.
Our SART Advocates determine what services/support are indicated for any given client, but may include the following: crisis assessment, education of victim's rights, assistance in accessing community services, provision of referrals for evidenced-based mental health services and medical treatment, access to transportation for court-related meetings, participation in case review, and provision of case updates

Report Sexual Abuse

If you suspect that a child is being abused, please contact the Child Protective Services hotline at 1-800-452-1999 to make a report. Early intervention helps to prevent further victimization, and to get children the support they need to heal.
Statewide Sexual Assault Helpline:
For support, please call our free, private, 24-hour helpline at 1-800-871-7741.
In accordance with federal regulations, Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine does not discriminate in the access to our provision of its services. If you have any concerns or complaints, please send an email to [email protected].
