Topics & Curricula

Our PreK-12th Grade School Curriculum

Our Prevention and Education Program staff have developed an evidence-based, trauma-informed, age-appropriate, and skills-based curriculum for PreK-12 students. We designed the curriculum to follow the Maine Department of Education’s 2018 Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response Model Policy. The curriculum is also intended to help schools meet their Maine State Learning Standards for mental health and sexual violence prevention. In 2021, the Cutler Institute completed a full curriculum assessment and found that our curriculum meets Maine’s learning standards.

Why Choose SARSSM's Prevention Education?

We believe that prevention and education curriculum is most effectively delivered by school personnel. They have trusted relationships with their students and can best engage them in these important and sensitive discussions.  Our goal is to empower teachers, guidance counselors, and school social workers in this work by providing them with training and technical assistance to effectively deliver our content and helping them strengthen their skills when responding to student questions or concerns.  We encourage schools to incorporate our lessons and materials to best fit your classrooms.
