Our Diversity &
Inclusion Efforts

Diversity & Inclusion in Youth Prevention & Education

SARSSM’s Youth Prevention & Education Program is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. We strive to achieve this commitment through centering diversity and accessibility in our curriculum & classroom materials, as well as in the content we develop. As educators, we believe that representation must be centered in all the work we do to ensure the most impactful learning.

Diversity and Inclusion in Graphics:
All graphics used in our materials are chosen to represent a wide range of identities and backgrounds. In the summer of 2021, we commissioned an artist to produce gender-neutral graphics for our body terminology lessons to be used by educators in York and Cumberland counties.

Diversity and Inclusion in Curriculum Examples and Scenarios:
All examples and scenarios used in our curricula and activities are intentionally written to include youth of all genders, races, and backgrounds so students see themselves reflected in our content. We also believe it is important for students to be exposed to people who are different from them. This fosters an accepting and affirming community for all youth.

Diversity and Inclusion in Content:
In choosing the content we develop, we center the needs and experiences of underserved youth, who may be at higher risk of sexual violence. This helps to ensure that all youth are receiving appropriate and relevant tools to keep themselves and others safe. We recognize that child sexual abuse and sexual violence are systemic problems that intersect with other forms of violence and oppression. We believe that it is important to acknowledge those intersections, as they relate to lived youth experiences and the role of community-level prevention.

Accessibility Statement:
We understand that students have a range of language, physical and cognitive accessibility needs. We work with schools to customize content whenever possible.  If you have a special request, please reach out, and we will see how we can best help.
Sexual Assault Helpline:
